The 40,000 square foot building houses a dorm with full amenities for 48 players, a separate coach’s apartment, theater/auditorium for reviewing game films, full restaurant & bar, batting cages, weight room & physical therapy, all under one roof. To accommodate this, we have over 100 tons of installed cooling capacity! The entire complex includes 8 turf baseball & softball fields, 12 tennis courts, indoor batting cages, and they are already in the process of expanding the facility to meet the athletic needs of the surrounding community, including Melissa ISD.

Blue Ridge Elementary School - Blue Ridge, Texas
Construction Update!

Just over a year later, we are so excited to share that construction at Blue Ridge Elementary School is nearly complete! One of the original project renderings is pictured below! The whole team did an amazing job, and the facility is absolutely gorgeous!

The project was designed under the direction of Jason Oswald of WRA Architects, Inc. The facility itself is a 2-story classroom wing, a FEMA rated storm shelter gymnasium, and a cafeteria with integrated stage. The site location for the facility added its own set of challenges due to the elevation changes, which involved extensive subsoil drainage designs and mechanical ventilation for the crawlspaces. We also enjoyed working closely with Alex Frederick of WRA Architects to maintain coordination with other consultants such as Alpha Consulting Engineers for structural, RLK Engineering for civil, and Gallagher Construction Services as the construction manager. We look forward to future endeavors with WRA, Blue Ridge school district, as well as the rest of the design team.

The renovation focused on expanding their existing commons area, revamping their coffee bar, and building on a new classroom addition which operates as a daycare. This project operated design under a heavy focus of cost awareness, through consistent communication between the architect, the general contractor, and other designers such as ourselves, the needs of the Church were met, and expectations were exceeded.

Parks Coffee - Carrollton, Texas

IMG_20200527_144100ESM.jpg

Root Engineering was excited to work on another project alongside Ben Ford with Wright Group Architects and Planners. Parks Coffee has recently completed renovations of one of their state of the art refurbishing warehouses! As part of this renovation, we expanded the coffee maker maintenance area, including a number of additional coffee machine repair stations, a new office area and overhauled restrooms! Renovation projects typically come with their own set of challenges as opposed to new construction builds. In the case of this facility, updating the power and gas utilities to accommodate the current and future needs were our key focuses. We hope Parks Coffee is enjoying their repair warehouse and meeting the demand of their coffee customers in the area!

North Shore Fire & Rescue - Shorewood, Wisconsin

IMG-5081.JPEG

Root Engineering was proud to work on another Fire Station, North Shore Fire and Rescue Station in Shorewood, Wisconsin alongside Kueny Architects of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. The original parts of the building were constructed before the turn of the century, adding challenges to the design.  Complete renovation of the first floor is in process, phase one, which included new individual sleeping quarters, kitchen, exercise room, meeting room, recreation area and remodeling of one apparatus bay. Phase Two of construction will complete an addition to the second apparatus bay. The fire station has remained fully operational during construction, serving the community of Shorewood. We are greatly enjoying watching the station take shape, and are excited to see it completed at the end of 2020.

Roller Town Beer Works - Celina, Texas

2.jpg

Root Engineering Services was excited to bring a craft brewery to Celina, TX with Rollertown Beerworks! Located in the quaint strip between the train tracks and cow pastures, just north of the Old Celina Square! Finishing out the minimalist warehouse shell to furnish a fully stocked combination bar and brewery was a particularly difficult challenge. By working closely with the entire design team, led by Cameron Roesler at David Baca Studios of Sherman, Root Engineering Services was able to present several design options, including one integrating a massive water tank as part of the country - industrial style interior decor. In the end, herculean efforts on the part of the entire design team, along with the can-do drive and entrepreneurial spirit of the owners, won the day. Rollertown opened triumphantly despite the challenges – right into the outbreak of COVID-19! However, they will not give up – they are still open and ready to greet you with a smile and a can of their own brew for take-out!

Waukegan Community Bank - Waukegan, IL

WCB_0001SM.jpg

Root Engineering was excited to work with Melichar Architects Waukegan Community Bank. The bank is a two-story building with a footprint of approximately 4,000 square feet. One of the design challenges was needing the ability to provide temperature control for various offices and conference rooms, which we achieved through the use of a VAV system. The site is located adjacent to residential areas, thus making the site lighting a little tricky.   Root Engineering helped overcome this complication by selecting light fixtures that struck a balance between safely and adequately lighting the site, and limiting light pollution to the neighboring residences.  We look forward to more projects with our design team!

Blue Ridge Elementary School - Blue Ridge, Texas

2020-6-16 - Blue Ridge Renderings 13.jpg

We are excited to announce our latest school project, Blue Ridge Elementary, has recently wrapped on design documents! The project has been designed under the direction of Jason Oswald of WRA Architects.

Anna ISD Football Stadium - Anna, Texas

20180803_213229.jpg

Root Engineering greatly enjoyed working with WRA Architects on this project. Located off Highway 5 in Anna, Texas, the Anna Football Stadium beautifully lights up the evening skies on game nights. With revamped concessions, a comfy new press box, additional restrooms, brand new home stands & a major upgrade to the stadium lighting, this facility will be enjoyed for decades to come. For us, one of the major challenges we had to work through was the field lighting. Fixtures have changed in recent years to give more field-focused coverage, which required us to come up with solutions that ensured enough light made it into the stands for spectators. We look forward to furthering our relationship with both WRA Architects & Anna ISD in the future.

Pottsboro ISD Storm Shelter Additions– Pottsboro, TX

APC_0407-hdr-sm.jpg

Root Engineering Services is excited for its continued partnership with WRA Architects for opportunities within the public education sector. Pottsboro High School and Pottsboro Elementary School storm shelter additions is one that was recently completed. Storm shelters often come with unique challenges, as student & staff safety was our top priority. From an operational standpoint, back-up power, ventilation, and maintaining the integrity of the storm shelter envelope are considerations that received careful attention. Ventilation in particular carried additional challenges for each of the locations, and a different approach was incorporated at each location. The layout of the high school shelter was conducive to a louver-based system; while the physical location of the elementary school addition, sitting between the existing elementary and the existing intermediate school, initiated a purely mechanical system. We look forward to exciting challenges within the Public Education system.

On-Cue Phillips 66 Houston, Texas

OnCue 2 Columns 01.jpg

Root Engineering Services is happy to have a long-term partnership with the Wright Group Architects of Carrollton, Texas designing OnCue convenience stores and gas stations. Located throughout Oklahoma City and surrounding areas, these Oncue Express service stations bring ease and uniformity of service, food from a full kitchen, and quality Phillips 66 gas wherever you can spot their bright red ovoid logo along I-35 and I-44. Root Engineering along with the Wright Group are happy to celebrate a decade of bringing this chain to new locations near you.
This ten year anniversary marks an exciting new push for OnCue: breaking into the Texas market. In the very near future, you can look forward to seeing a new store in Houston - on the corner on Westheimer Road and Beltway 8! This new store brought exciting challenges for all designers involved: a compilation of small changes and improvements from the last decade of new stores, new utilities, and various accommodations for the Houston climate, such as increased humidity and adding a full-capacity generator for operation during emergency situations involving power loss. However, by working closely with Adam Salazar, the Wright Group architect with OnCue expertise, the team brought the design to completion. We are looking forward to seeing OnCues grow in this new frontier!

Immanuel Church Gurnee, IL

1.png

Root Engineering was excited to help the Immanuel Church in Gurnee, Illinois with the MEP design for its new Sanctuary addition. The project will be a 24,000 square foot addition to their existing building. One of the challenges we faced during this project was the difficulty conditioning the space due to the high ceilings, occupancy spikes, and noise restrictions. We came up with a solution and provided two large constant volume rooftop units with demand control ventilation. These large constant volume units are cost effective, and provide adequate ventilation based on carbon dioxide readings in the sanctuary, as we did not want to over ventilate the space during unoccupied hours, as an energy consumption consideration.  Careful thought was put into duct sizing and diffuser selection in the sanctuary to walk the tightrope of quiet operation while also providing proper air mixing at the ground level.  We also faced challenges with lighting and power designs to achieve the Churches’ desired theatrical effects in the sanctuary.  Root Engineering Services worked closely with Amplio to provide proper power, conduit, and lighting in all appropriate locations.  The project is currently being bid and Root Engineering will provide construction administration throughout the sanctuary additions construction in the Spring/Summer of 2020.

Preston Trail Community Church McKinney, Texas

IMG_2821.JPG

Root Engineering Services is very proud to have worked on Preston Trail Community Church in McKinney, Texas. This project involved converting an existing credit union & data center into a single space of worship and learning. We worked closely with studioMeyer - Architects, to repurpose several existing HVAC systems, to meet the heating and cooling needs of the new facility, with minimal additional equipment. We also enjoyed working closely with Clark Audio Visual to design a building infrastructure to support a state-of-the-art lighting and audio system for the Worship Auditorium.  Root Engineering is pleased to have assisted in the creation of a new space of worship & community.

Root Engineering had the pleasure to work with Chuck Bleck of Bleck and Bleck Architecture on the Crayola Experience in Chandler, Arizona. Located in the Chandler Fashion Center Mall, this project had some unique challenges. Our team worked in tandem with the building owner to coordinate the existing equipment for the installation of new VAV rooftop systems, to provide a robust HVAC system to the space. We also faced challenges from an electrical perspective, as the facility contains many interactive stations & activities for children to explore the wonders of color. During the design process, our team enjoyed the opportunity to tour the Crayola Experience in Plano, Texas to gain a greater understanding of how the facility operates and how to best utilize our expertise to deliver a memorable experience for the guests of Crayola for many years to come.

Durant Market Square

1.png

Root Engineering Services is excited to work with Shane Knight of Theorem on the city of Durant’s improvement project at Market Square. This open, outdoor social space is located at the intersection of Evergreen Street and 1st Avenue, at the heart of the city just across from the Durant Central Fire Station. With benches and landscaping surrounding the Historic Square Café, this plaza and associated parking needed additional facilities in order to fully utilize it as an optimal public gathering space. By adding a shade with power for food trucks and public restroom facilities, this project will benefit our “neighbors to the north” in Durant.
The added structures in the midst of existing parking and concrete presented a unique problem in order to provide power and plumbing while minimizing cost, disruption & demolition of the existing area. We worked closely with Shane through two successive designs in order to add the most value to the project while balancing costs. We are looking forward to the myriad of ways this area will enjoyed by the residents and visitors to Durant, OK.

Jaguar-Land Rover Schaumburg, Illinois

IMG_5064.JPG

Root Engineering was excited to work alongside TMA Affinity Architects on the Jaguar-Land Rover dealership & service center renovation. All MEP systems were demolished and replaced. Our solution included several constant volume rooftops for cooling in the sales and office areas, radiant heaters and Big Ass fans in the work bay; along with a contaminant system linked to exhaust fans and a make-up air unit. Plumbing involved laying out a triple basin interceptor for the oil waste and routing a new sanitary sewer to the existing main.  The lighting and electrical power were reworked from scratch to meet the needs for the workers equipment, lighting demands, and various vehicle charging stations.

First Baptist Church Whitesboro

IMG-1322_Edited.jpg

Root Engineering Services was pleased work alongside Architect Kent Salisbury of David Baca Studios for another exciting project – First Baptist Church Whitesboro. This project involved new construction of a 2-story building, connected to an existing single-story church facility; with a one story shared common area. Our main design challenge was trying to join new & existing systems, and a lack of ceiling space within the open concept glass walls. We were able to design a cost effective & efficient split HVAC system to service the new and existing portions of the building. Despite most of the conflicts and obstacles being faced during construction, Root Engineering greatly enjoyed working through the time constraints and challenges with this project.

Fire Station #4 The Colony, Texas

Colony FS 4.jpg

Root Engineering Services was proud to be selected as the MEP consultants for the construction of a brand new, state of the art, Fire Station #4 in The Colony, TexasThe design of this facility carefully considered the firemen, and includes many modern amenities to help keep them comfortable. A large TV break room and individual HVAC controls in their bunks were some of the considerations that were made for them. The entry tower / lobby of the station is an impressive (approx.) 40’ tall with direct access to the firehouse. Root Engineering worked closely with Kent Spurgin of Spurgin & Associates Architects on this project, and is looking forward to working together again on The Colony Fire Station #5. We were pleased to be in attendance for the Opening Ceremony on September 11th.
